TESTOSTERONE: DOES THIS HORMONE FEED PROSTATE CANCER?
Testosterone is a steroid hormone, made from cholesterol and primarily secreted by the testicles in males.
It is the primary sex hormone in males and plays vital role in the development and health of the prostate gland.
Below the age of 40 years, most men live with healthy prostate gland.
During this period, the levels of blood testosterone is higher than the levels of blood estrogen.
And so, the ratio of testosterone to estrogen is in favour of testosterone.
It is to be noted that during this period of testosterone dominance against estrogen, most young men rarely experience prostate cancer.
However, due to dietary, environmental, and other contributing lifestyle factors, the blood testosterone levels fall as men age past 40 years and above, while their estrogen levels rise.
As this trend continues, estrogen will gradually begins to dominate testosterone and the ratio of testosterone to estrogen will now favour estrogen instead of testosterone.
And this corresponds to the period most men experience prostate problems like prostate enlargement, and prostate cancer.
So, during the period of testosterone dominance, prostate cancer is rare in men, while during the period of estrogen dominance (corresponding to falling testosterone levels), prostate cancer becomes prevalent or common in men.
However, and for decades, it has been a ” sacred dogma ” in orthodox medicine that testosterone is bad for men diagnosed with prostate cancer because they ” believe ” that testosterone feeds prostate cancer cells.
And this is the reason behind ” hormone therapy ” in the orthodox treatment of prostate cancer. This therapy targets testosterone.
Fortunately, this ” sacred dogma ” in orthodox medicine that testosterone feeds prostate cancer cells is not true because there are over 200 published studies that have clearly shown that testosterone helps to heal prostate cancer.
